Our region of Lake Cowichan around the lake overall has an abundance of trails for hikers, bikers, and many other users. The majority of these trails are not part of our work and maintenance. We currently only have agreements with Mosaic Forest Management as the land stewards of Fairservice Fun and Christopher Rocks. However that doesn’t mean that our expertise can not help the community with other trails. Let me tell you about one such project and ask for your help – the CLEC trail rejuvenation.

So what trail am I even talking about? CLEC is the acronym for the Cowichan Lake Education Centre, which is managed by the Town of Lake Cowichan and located at the very end of Lakeview Park Road off South Shore Road on the right just after the rec centre. The large property includes a long hiking trail that is in desperate need of some maintenance. The work needed incldues brush cutting to widen the trail and raking it all out. Numerous fallen logs and dangerous trees need to be removed, and we are even looking at a small bridge.

The CLTBS submitted a bid for performing and organizing that work for the Town of Lake Cowichan – and we won! And you can all help us. Specifically are are planning two major trail days:

  • 13 June 2026, 10am – 4pm
  • 27 June 2026, 10am – 4pm

Both days are run together with Camp Yes from The Youth Excellence Society with the CLTBS coordinating activities, providing expertise, and equipment.

If you are interested to join us on these days, as well as help us with some additional maintenance days we run without the camp, email us at registration@cowichanlaketrailblazers.com to register and learn more. We plan to run Thursday evening build sessions throughout June and would love your help.

And if you are land owner in the area and would like to work with use, don’t hesitate to reach out. We want to build one huge network all around the area.
